Who the hell is Robert Kiyosaki?

“An investor, businessman, self-help author, and motivational speaker. Robert Toru Kiyosaki is best known for his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series of motivational books and other material. He has written 18 books which combined have sold over 26 million copies.” 

Robert T. Kiyosaki is a 4th generation Japanese Amercian, born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii.

He comes from a prominent family of educators. His father was the head of education for the State of Hawaii.
Robert was educated in New York and attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, graduating with the class of 1969 as a deck officer.  He later served in the Marine Corps as a helicopter gunship pilot during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Air Medal.

Returning from the war, he left the Marine Corps in 1974 and got a job selling copy machines for the Xerox Corporation.

His first success in the business world came with a company he started in 1977.  His company brought to the market the first nylon and Velcro “surfer” wallets, which grew into a multi-million dollar world wide product. He and his products were featured in Runner’s World, Gentleman’s Quarterly, Success Magazine, Newsweek, and even Playboy.

In 1985, Robert founded a business and investment education company that operated in seven countries, teaching business and investing to tens of thousands of graduates.

In 1994 at the age of 47, he sold his business and retired. After retirement Robert continued with real estate and business investments, and wrote the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, which hit bookstores in 1997.

Aiming to educate people financially, while at the same time remaining entertaining, he went on to develop a board game, CashFlow 101.  The Cashflow 101 board game went on to become very successful. Cashflow 101 is now also available online, where players are able to learn the basics of investing and personal finance.
